A new way of living the road: Fulcrum Racing Zero Nite Shimano Clincher Wheel Set PLASMA ELECTROLYTIC OXIDATION TREATMENT
A completely new technology combines a very engaging total black look with high range specs, including a special braking surface that creates new standards for braking on aluminum wheels. The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation process gives the braking surface very special characteristics regarding hardness and wear resistance. This is possible thanks to a very fine and compact matrix of alpha and microcrystalline gamma alumina and amorphous alumina embedded on the surface. Thanks to the high hardness of the layer, this new wheel presents excellent wear resistance.
THE NEW BRAKING SURFACE
Fulcrum R&D department has developed a new design for Racing Zero Nite?s braking surface. The design created by turning allows superior braking efficiency. Specified brake pads rims should be used with this new model.
DIFFERENTIATED RIM HEIGHT
26mm at the front to have a good handling; 30mm at the rear to transfer all the power to the wheel.
TRIPLE MILLING
This special triple milling makes it possible to reduce the peripheral weight of the rim and to increase the reactivity of the wheel.
CARBON HUB WITH USB? BEARINGS AND OVERSIZE FLANGE
Carbon hub with oversize aluminum flange and Two-to-One? technology: the doubling of the spokes on the cassette side provides greater torsional stiffness and therefore a greater reactivity at each pedal stroke. This means greater efficiency in the transmission of power to the wheel.
THE FRONT HUB
The front hub has been redesigned, now it is smaller and lighter than before, smoothness will be ensured by the well known USB6trade; bearing technology.

2:1 Two-to-One Spoke Ratio?
What is Two-to-One??
A system that is as simple as it is effective, the result of the ingenuity of the Fulcrum? engineers and attentive observation of the results of the tests performed on the wheels on a daily basis.
These tests made it possible to understand that the forces that act on the sides of the wheel, and therefore on the spokes, are extremely different; but what?s more, the differences between the front and rear wheels are also evident and significant. The front wheel, in fact, has to remain stable even during braking of the disk on the left side, and the rear wheel, in addition to making room for the sprocket set, has to compensate for the traction of the force on the chain side.
So how can we keep the wheel perfectly in balance even when it is stressed by braking and acceleration? By doubling the number of spokes and positioning them in such a way that, for each stress on one side of the wheel, there is an equal and opposite force on the other side. This may seem like a simple solution, but especially on harsh and demanding terrains like those of off-road riding, the 2:1 Two-to-One? system is crucial for ensuring consistent control of your bike even in the most critical situations.
Advantages: The advantages are truly striking.
In braking, the front wheel maintains the desired trajectory and does not skid, while the rear wheel, precisely due to this spoking system, reaches a high level of torsional stiffness that enables the optimal transfer of power to the wheel. The 2:1 Two-to-OneTM system also makes it possible to reduce the unit load sustained by each spoke, and this minimises mechanical stress, prolonging the life of the wheel.
Anti-Rotation System?
This new system raises the concept of spoking to new heights of performance.
The Fulcrum? engineers have redesigned the spokes and the hub housings to create a solid and unmoveable whole. The result is that the spokes a) will never lose their initial tension, thus keeping the wheel perfectly reactive and centred, and b) will remain in the position that was found in wind tunnel tests to ensure the best aerodynamic penetration possible. To ensure the top performance and reliability of its products, each project, for the production stage, must undergo a series of very strict tests that validate what has been conceived and designed up to that moment (fatigue test, crash test, tyre burst test, enviroment test, 100% manually assembled and electronically checked).
This is why, from its 2012 range, Fulcrum? wanted to supply each wheel with its own Identity Card (ID) which uniquely identifies the wheel and certifies that it has been manually assembled and has passed all tests required by the strict quality protocol.

Mounting Magnet
What is MoMag??
A magnet and lots of ingenuity. This was what led to the patent for the well-tested ?Mounting Magnet? system, or MoMag?. How does it work? The nipples, once inserted inside the rim via the valve hole, are ?guided? to the point of connection with the spoke by means of the magnet. This simple but ingenious system makes it possible to have a wheel without holes on the upper bridge, but with spokes tensioned by traditional nipples!
Advantages: No holes on the rim means that the rim is uniform at every point, free from stress points or zones of weakness and, for the clincher profiles no rim tape is required, to the benefit of weight reduction. The advantages are immediately clear: greater rim lifetime, greater resistance to fatigue, the possibility to give the spokes greater tension, and greater stiffness which, in terms of performance, mean greater reactivity and acceleration.
But that?s not all. The advantages also include extremely quick and simple maintenance and spoke replacement. All to the benefit of cyclists who choose Fulcrum?.
USB?
Ceramic Ultra Smooth Bearings?
Fulcrum? has a long-standing reputation for the extremely high performance of its hubs in terms of smoothness and reliability.
In fact, all the projects are entirely developed in our R&D department and we have put obsessive care into taking care of every detail.
The hubs with USB? ceramic bearings (Ultra Smooth Bearings) further enhance the wheels? smoothness and reduce weight and the need for maintenance.
Comparative tests have shown that USB? bearings are 50% smoother than standard bearings.

Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation
The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation treatment is a process made thanks to electrical discharges that take advantage of heavy materials – free electrolytes.
This process is an advanced oxidation process of light alloys of aluminum, magnesium and titanium. This special project was developed a few decades ago in the Russian laboratories to improve characteristics of the lightweight materials used in the field of space and military.
The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation process gives the alloy surface very special characteristics regarding hardness and wear resistance. This is possible thanks to a very fine and compact matrix of alpha and microcrystalline gamma alumina and amorphous alumina embedded on the surface.
Wheels treated with Plasma Electrolytic Oxidations take a new really engaging total black look, also interesting for the excellent wear resistance thanks to the high hardness of the layer. Fulcrum R&D department has chosen to use this treatment also on the aluminum braking surface, developing a new design created by turning that allows superior braking efficiency.
Specified brake pads should be used with this special finishing.
